THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT US

When president barrack Obama started his campaign for the presidency of United States we in Africa especially Nigeria followed with keen interest. When he won nomination we celebrated it in bars, newspaper stand and virtually everywhere. Some Nigerians both poor and rich wanted to donate money to help him win the election. When some Nigerians were rebuffed or literarily insulted because they donated money for his campaign. We were taken aback. (Mind you, we do not know the laws governing American election so I don’t think they should castigate us for that) Obama’s camp did not say a single kind word for their effort. We forgave him for that and learnt our lesson the hard way .though I have little or nothing I was willing to sacrifice the little I have to help him just because we felt loved for being at least half African.

On the night of elected I left my house and walked almost three miles to a friends house who has cable television. I alongside with many others was glued to TVs till the next morning.
And when he won, we celebrated it as if the heaven we all are hoping for is here.

But months later, Obama visited Africa; he stopped in Ghana and stayed there to insult Nigeria. I know that we have our problems and we are working hard to solve, what we need from him is not insult but encouragement. Months later Mrs. Clinton came to Nigeria and continued from where Obama stopped as if that is not enough, American ambassadors and high official have not stopped to toe the same line till date.
From all these it is clear that America as a country hates Nigeria.

It is very bad that we love a people that hate us with passion; the problem is that some Nigerians still live under the illusion that America is the epitome of all things good but the facts on ground prove to the contrary.

Now people who have been tying to burn a house for no just cause are very happy that the house caught fire on its own. Farouk Abdulmutallab has given American an excuse they’ve been waiting for; but before we throw away the bad water with the child let’s pause and listen to the voice of reason for once. I really don’t know if the action of Obama is caused by the fact that he is black and maybe trying so hard to placate the whites. But for whatever reason, I think that America as a country should not punish Nigeria for the sin of one person. Richard Reid is a Briton who carried out terrorist act. Secondly, Farouk Abdulmutallab joined al qaeda in Britain. America as a country did not label Britain as terrorist country. Why? Maybe because Britain has the military economic might to stand on its own. Selective justice is injustice

If America continues to punish her friends; her friends may one day turn to become enemies.
Secondly, if the respect and the way a nation is treated is based on the amount of arms and the military might of that country, many countries will buy, develop and train a formidable military. This is counter productive because if we make more weapons we will definitely kill more people. I have gotten the message Nigerian should develop their country. Sure enough we will. We are not morons and fools. But this action of America may make more people to see that nuclear power is not just attractive but the best option because it at least offers the holder some level of respect.
