THE LIE ABOUT NIGERIAN LANGUAGES

For years now our European colonist in their bid to foster divide and rule policy in Nigeria worked hard to find enough things that will divide us instead of unite us.

As a Nigerian I am ashamed when I hear educated Nigerians who swear by the lies they were told by our British colonists. Chief among them is the lie that Nigeria has about 521 languages. I have analyzed their so called classification and I make a bold statement that Nigeria does not have up to 50 languages. This is contrary to the lies I was told in history and geography classes.
In their so called classification they called all minute variation, intonation, dialect and variations in geographical location to mean a different language.
They might be forgiven if in all their honesty they failed to see that it’s impossible for such a huge language variation to exist in such a small land mass because people found in the same geographical location must interact I.e. speak to one another and trade among themselves otherwise there will be wars that ultimately lead to uniform language in the end.
When they created this false assertion, the population of Nigeria wasn’t up to 100,000,000 (100million). What this assertion means is that every village that has up to 192,000 people has a different language. You will understand it better when you check the world average below:
The world currently has approximately 7 billion people with about 6900 languages, which means that a little over 1 million people on the average has one language. This means that Nigeria has almost 500%-600% more language than the world average and I say unequivocally that this is a lie!
